Rumors: Mick Schumacher may replace Franco Colapinto

Rumors: Mick Schumacher may replace Franco Colapinto

Just yesterday, we remembered Mick Schumacher, who is making another attempt to return to Formula 1 and therefore flew to Indianapolis to hold talks with the Cadillac F1 program management during the Indy 500 race.

But the Austrian press is spreading rumors that Mick's return may take place during this season.

It's not hard to believe that Flavio Briatore, currently the acting head of the Alpine F1 team, is unhappy with Franco Colapinto. The Argentine driver, who is generally considered very promising, finished far beyond the top ten in Imola, and was last in qualifying in Monaco, after which he took 13th place on Sunday.

Colapinto replaced Jack Duane in the Renault factory team, and it was rumored that he was given five races to prove himself. Two weeks have already passed, and, on the one hand, Franco's results once again indicate the disadvantages of the Alpine A525, on the other, he loses to the experienced Pierre Gasly no less than Duane. And he also hits cars.

In any case, if Colapinto's agreement with Alpine is really designed for only five races, there are three more stages ahead – in Spain, Canada and Austria. A lot can change during this time, but according to the Austrian edition of OE24, the team's management is already conducting behind-the-scenes negotiations with the son of the seven-time world champion. And this is not surprising, because Mick competes for Alpine in endurance racing.

Timo Glock, a former Formula 1 racing driver who works with the channel as an expert, said on Sky Deutschland: "Mick has more experience than Franco Colapinto. And he can definitely become a candidate for a place in the team if Colapinto does not show the necessary results.

Mick continues to learn and gain experience, and in the WEC he is always the fastest of the three riders in his crew. So inviting Mick is definitely an option!"
