Adrian Newey's former assistant joined Aston Martin
The Aston Martin team has lured former assistant Adrian Newey to help solve problems with the latest simulator.
Gilles Wood, who worked closely with Newey at Red Bull Racing during Sebastian Vettel's championship years, became head of Aston Martin's modeling and analysis department. The British team managed to persuade Wood to return to Formula 1 from Apple, where he had been working since 2017.
At the last Monaco Grand Prix, Adrian Newey said that the Aston Martin simulator did not provide the necessary correlation, and Wood's primary task would be to solve this problem. Gilles has extensive experience in setting up simulators – he solved similar tasks at McLaren from 2004 to 2006, and then at Red Bull Racing from 2007 to 2014.
From 2014 to 2017, Wood worked at Red Bull Advanced Technologies, and then accepted an offer from Apple and moved to California. Now, the experienced engineer has returned to Formula 1 and will continue to work with Newey.
