The Kyalami highway has received a Grade 1 license

The Kyalami circuit has become one step closer to returning to the Formula 1 calendar, having received a Grade 1 license from the FIA.

Only race tracks that meet the requirements of Grade 1 are eligible to host Formula 1 stages. The license process was launched in the fall of 2024, and now the owner of the circuit, Toby Venter, said that the FIA has issued all the necessary documents.

Toby Venter: "This is a crucial moment for the whole of South African motorsport. When we acquired Kyalami in 2014, we committed ourselves not only to restoring the circuit to a world-class level, but also to make it a beacon for all motorsport in Africa. Obtaining a Grade 1 license is an important step on this path."

In the case of Kyals, a Grade 1 license was issued in advance. The owners of the circuit have three years to complete the planned upgrade, after which the track will fully comply with all the parameters of Grade 1.

The last time the circuit hosted the South African Grand Prix was in 1993. The victory in that race was won by Alain Prost, and together with him we rose to the podium. Ayrton Senna and Mark Blundell.
