Will the Alpine team be sold?
At the end of May, the head of the French Renault concern, Luca de Meo, said that the company had no plans to curtail the Formula 1 program or sell the team, but two weeks later Luca resigned from his post and the obvious question arose: what will Renault do with this complex asset?
Ted Kravitz, a correspondent on Sky Sports F1, summed up the conversations on this topic that took place last weekend in the paddock of the Canadian Grand Prix.…
Ted Kravitz: "When you're Flavio Briatore and your position is executive advisor to Luca DeMeo, head of Renault, and then Luca decides it's time for him to leave the company, what's left for Flavio Briatore? Whose adviser is he now? He probably would like to become a real team leader, but so far there is simply no one to appoint him to this post.
Who will become the new CEO of Renault? Will Luca Demeo's successor want to continue participating in Formula 1? Will Briatore keep his post? Or will the company decide to sell the team? Or will they rename it back to Renault? Otmar Safnauer is just looking for a team that can be bought."
Alpine F1 racer Pierre Gasly in Canada admitted that he also has no answers.…
Pierre Gasly: "I have a very good relationship with Luka, it was he who brought me to the team and inspired many people in it. It was with great sadness that I learned that he was leaving. I'm sure he has good reasons.
Our team is progressing, it is not evident from the results, but active work is underway at the base to prepare for the next season. It is important for me that we maintain this momentum in the 26th, when the balance of power may be completely different.
I can't comment on what happened. We need more information. Obviously, I need to sit down with the management and understand what this means for the team, for all of us. But, you know, at the end of the day, we all have our own jobs, we all need to focus on what we have to do here and now, and do it best. It's important for all of us to stay a team and stick together right now."
