Frederick Wasser: We work a lot in Maranello.

Ferrari CEO Frederic Wasser and team Sports director Diego Ioverno spoke about the preparations for the Austrian Grand Prix and the special features of the track in Spielberg.

Frederic Wasser: "It takes just over a minute for a Formula 1 car to complete a lap in Spielberg. This means that the lap gaps will become even smaller, so thousandths of a second will make a big difference. It is critically important to bring all the components together. Seven out of ten turns are right, and a significant height difference only adds to the difficulties.

We work hard at Maranello to provide all the necessary elements to achieve the best possible results. Charles, Lewis and the whole team are determined to give their all on a track that usually hosts one of the most spectacular races of the season."

Diego Ioverno: "In Spielberg, there are usually exciting races with a fight all the way to the finish line, as the track configuration facilitates overtaking and wide safety zones provoke riders to drive to the limit. And this aspect has led to certain problems in recent years.

The rules say that one of the wheels of the car must always be located within the boundaries of the track in order to avoid violations that lead to fines – in qualifying, lap time is canceled, and in a race, three violations lead to a five-second penalty. In recent years, the FIA has decided to adhere to the letter of the law, which has led to an exponential increase in violations and an urgent need to address this issue.

The most effective solution is the one that physically prevents you from violating the boundaries of the highway. For several years, high orange curbs were used for this, which could damage the car and send it flying. Gravel traps are much more commonly used today, which significantly reduce speed. But Shpilberg is still the highway where most people are fined for trespassing."
