Swedish broadcaster SVT recently told a story that happened several years ago, in which Kimi Räikkönen played an important role.
Its main protagonist is Mio Olert, a young karting driver from the Swedish town of Timrå, who was six years old when doctors gave him a terrifying diagnosis — leukemia.
The treatment was difficult and dragged on for years, but the boy gradually recovered and began karting at the age of nine. One day, to his great surprise, he received a package from Kimi Räikkönen, who at that time, in 2018, was still a Ferrari driver.
The package contained a racing suit that Kimi had used during the period when he moved into rallying in 2010–2011 and even competed in the World Championship. A short note wishing him a speedy recovery was attached to the gift.
“One might think that a person like Kimi Räikkönen wouldn’t care much about what happens beyond his immediate circle, but it turns out that’s not the case. He has a special character,” Mio is convinced, for whom the 2007 world champion became a role model.
Mio is now 16, he is seriously into karting, intends to become a professional driver and is soon expected to move up to one of the junior formula series.
