Ayo Komatsu: A Difficult Day
Haas F1 avoided incidents on Friday, but are still not entirely happy with the day's results…
Aio Komatsu, team principal: “A difficult day, the work was interrupted several times by red flags. We improved the car between sessions, the drivers felt more comfortable and confident – on that front everything is good, but we need to add speed and get everything right to get through third practice and qualifying without problems.”
Oliver Bearman (11th): “The first practice after a long break was tough – the historic old-school circuit doesn’t forgive mistakes. It was important to run cleanly and to understand what the car is missing for a better balance.
Before the second practice we changed the downforce level, and it was a step in the right direction – I immediately felt much more confident in the car. We switched early to Soft tyres because we were expecting heavy rain that never came. As a result, I did my quick lap relatively early compared to the other drivers, and I think we’re in good shape here.”
Esteban Ocon (15th): “A decent day, especially considering the progress in the second session, although it didn’t all go my way – I did my quick lap on worn tyres, otherwise I might have been higher. Still, over the course of the day we were able to get more out of the car and are quite pleased.”
