Verstappen's future depends on 2026, according to his manager.

20 September 2025 - 10:56 Max Verstappen’s manager, Raymond Vermeulen, has stated that the four-time world champion could potentially remain with Red Bull for his entire career, provided the team offers him the necessary equipment to succeed. "Before the summer break, it was clear that we’re committed to Red Bull for 2026," Vermeulen shared with De Telegraaf in Baku. "I believe this is the right choice. Even if Max had the option to activate his performance clause, it is uncertain whether he would have chosen to do so."

Vermeulen, who manages Verstappen alongside his father Jos, acknowledged that there have been instances in the past when leaving Red Bull was contemplated. "Certainly, there have been moments when Red Bull truly fell short," he remarked. "It’s natural to wonder what if the situation worsens. But if you examine the seasons closely, Red Bull has consistently found a way to recover."

Looking forward, Vermeulen noted that the extensive 2026 regulations will shape Verstappen’s future beyond that year. "Max aims to secure more championships in the future," he stated. "He’s not ready for that yet, but his success depends on the equipment available to him. Thus, I believe 2026 will be a crucial year that will determine his future in Formula 1."

Regarding interest from competitors such as Mercedes and perhaps even McLaren, Vermeulen was straightforward. "It’s not particularly thrilling, to be honest. Everyone is reaching out to one another. Or do you think Toto (Wolff) isn't in contact with Charles Leclerc? It’s just another puzzle that everyone is trying to piece together for themselves," he explained.

Vermeulen suggested that Red Bull’s willingness to accommodate Verstappen’s broader racing ambitions—like his new Nordschleife endeavors—is significant. "Max enjoys a lot of freedom at Red Bull. We’ve always been transparent about his preferences," he commented. "They can see how much he thrives when discussing racing a GT3 car, for instance. And what could be better than having a satisfied driver on your team?"

Outside of Formula 1, Verstappen is heavily involved in sim racing and his Verstappen.com Racing operation, as well as running a company called ’Pro Simulation’ that supports drivers in the virtual realm.

On his own role, Vermeulen chuckled: "I’m working on it every day of the week. It’s very varied—covering sponsorships, contracts, and personal matters. Overall, we collaborate with a team of about 25 individuals. It’s quite a venture. And it truly feels like an incredible story that we are still writing."
