Hulkenberg: The Marina Bay circuit should suit Sauber.
Last year Nico Hülkenberg raced for Haas F1 and finished in the top ten in Singapore, picking up a couple of points for ninth place. The experienced German driver believes that the characteristics of the Marina Bay circuit should suit the Sauber car as well.
Nico Hülkenberg: "Absolutely, our task is to score points. I like this wonderful race because it was the first Grand Prix to take place at night under the floodlights. And generally, the Singapore round is somehow special because the organisers manage to make the weekend insanely bright and interesting.
It's one of my favourite races of the season, so I'm looking forward to the start of tomorrow's practice sessions; I can't wait to start learning the circuit and to soak up the whole atmosphere.
Every weekend there's very intense competition in qualifying, the results are very close, so every nuance is important and can affect the final result. At the same time, there are no miracles, there aren't any special ways to achieve success, and you just need to try to build up speed gradually, do the best possible job on track and put in a good lap every time. In short, everything as usual.
This street circuit has a lot of corners, and it used to have a fairly bumpy surface, but it's been partially resurfaced now, so I don't yet know what it's like. Racing on street circuits isn't easy, but I've always liked it, including in Singapore. You could say I've always felt confident here, I was comfortable.
I think the characteristics of the Marina Bay circuit should suit our car, because the corners here mostly have to be taken at relatively low speeds."
