Franco Colapinto: We could have achieved more

In Singapore both Alpine drivers were eliminated in the first part of qualifying…

Franco Colapinto (18th): “Of course, this is not the result we dreamed of, but we can be pleased with how the car behaved and how the team managed to improve its pace from session to session. In qualifying the car behaved much better than in practice, it allowed me to attack. We need to carry that feeling into tomorrow’s race.

I really think we could have achieved more, that the results don’t reflect our progress over the weekend. We could have started higher up on the grid if I had driven my lap better and been able to avoid traffic.

Tomorrow awaits a long, grueling race in which overtaking is difficult. We need to think about how to use strategy as effectively as possible and try to fight back.”

Pierre Gasly (20th): “There’s nothing to say today, I couldn’t complete the final lap because of a stoppage on track at Turn 11. The team suspects a lubrication system failure – they’ll definitely get to the bottom of it. At the time it was frustrating that I couldn’t finish the lap, but even without that we would probably not have made it through.

A tough day, but it needs to be left behind and we must move on. As always, we will do everything we can. We’ll see if there’s a chance to do better in the race.”
