Fernando Alonso: The car handled very well in the race

Fernando Alonso finished eighth in Singapore, but after a penalty for Lewis Hamilton he moved up to seventh and scored points for the first time since the summer break. His Aston Martin team-mate Lance Stroll finished thirteenth.

Fernando Alonso (7th): “I had a good race and the car was handling very well. I enjoy racing in Singapore because it is very physically demanding.

I had good pace over both stints, and the team made the right call to put on Medium tyres, which allowed me to make up places after a slow pit stop. I hope we can score even more points in the remaining races of the season.”

Lance Stroll (13th): “Today I didn’t have any opportunities to recover. We tried to stay out as long as possible in the hope of a safety car. I was able to do 38 laps on the Soft tyres.

On the second stint the Medium tyres degraded faster than expected due to traffic, overheating and battles with rivals. The result could have been better, but we did everything we could and will keep trying. In two weeks we head to the race in Texas.”
