Bottas is not sure that Schumacher should move to IndyCar.

Valtteri Bottas doubts that Mick Schumacher should move to IndyCar if he still hopes to return to Formula 1.

On Monday, October 13, the son of the seven-time world champion will for the first time pilot an IndyCar for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) in tests at Indianapolis, and has already begun preparations, including having his seat fitted in the Dallara DW12 cockpit.

Of course, Mick did not decide to take part in such tests by chance: he is currently choosing what the next chapter of his career will be, and does not rule out that he might like this overseas series.

However, Bottas, who next year will become a driver for the new Cadillac F1 team, doubts the wisdom of the scenario Mick has chosen if he intends to return to the world championship paddock.

“I’m not sure that the decision to move to IndyCar is the right one,” Bottas is quoted as saying by Formule1.nl. “People may get the impression that he has chosen a different path. If I were in his place I would stay in the WEC and at the same time try to find a way back into F1.”

Ralf Schumacher, Mick’s uncle, shares much the same view: “To be honest, I haven’t spoken with Mick, but judging by his words he really wants to return to single-seater racing, and that’s why he wants to try IndyCar.

I don’t understand that, because I think he’s in good hands in the WEC, and he has a big future ahead. Moving from IndyCar to Formula 1 isn’t that simple. And in general, if someone goes overseas, then there, as in Japan, it’s difficult to achieve success, because the standards are still quite high. And that means additional pressure, which you probably don’t need at all.”
