Leo Turini believes that Lewis Hamilton has started a new life.
Leo Turini, a well-known Italian journalist who always genuinely rejoices in the successes of his beloved Ferrari team, believes that a new stage in Lewis Hamilton's career began in 2026…
It's a pity that Max Verstappen was deprived of victory at the Nürburgring due to tire issues, which he secured yesterday while driving a Mercedes.
I have always liked drivers who enjoyed competing in both formulas and touring car series since my youth. For example, I immediately recall Ronnie Peterson, whom I simply adored as a teenager. For the same reason, I was a fan of Michele Alboreto's talent. And not just this driver, as there is a more recent example in Fernando Alonso.
When it comes to Lewis Hamilton, however, that's a completely different matter. I don't want to say that, based on his historical achievements, he surpasses "SuperMax" – let's leave that topic for discussion with friends in some bar, as it is perfect for that. I have my own opinion on this matter, which I will not share, as I want to talk about another topic.
Personally, I believe that Lewis is starting a new life (La Vita Nuova – that's the title of Dante Alighieri's book, which I have also read), and that in itself is very interesting.
It seems that in 2026, drivers from all Formula 1 teams, except Mercedes, are having significant problems adapting to the new regulations; they are finding it terribly difficult right now. I think many will agree with me.
But there is an exception – that is Hamilton. While the new technological reality seems absurd and strange to us, Lewis is enjoying it. It seems he has once again become the Champion he once was. I want to say that in Australia and China, he performed very well, at the level of Charles Leclerc, if not better.
I know there is this common myth that Lewis could not stand ground-effect cars and all that. But the essence is this: it seems that Hamilton, after a disappointing last season, his debut with Ferrari, has rediscovered the joy of driving a racing car. And he gladly accepts this challenge.
I am also told that Lewis had the opportunity to influence the development process of the Ferrari SF-26, which reflected in the features of its design, the choice of engineering solutions, etc.
Of course, all of this is understandable, but it does not solve one mysterious puzzle. Why does Hamilton like what neither Verstappen nor Leclerc nor many others accept? Perhaps we should not exclude the possibility that in this situation, he is right, at least in part? And what can we expect from Lewis in Suzuka and other tracks?
Isn't it strange that despite Mercedes' clear superiority in the first two races of the season, Hamilton continues to claim that he intends to fight for the title this year?
Just three months ago, I could not have imagined that I would be asking myself such questions, and I am ready to admit it.
