Japanese Grand Prix: Changes to the track and overtaking zones
Before the weekend in Suzuka, the FIA announced changes to the track, the locations of the overtaking zones (OT) and the Straight Mode zones, where active aerodynamics can be used.
There are few changes. The main one is the new asphalt on the section from turns 7 to 17, where the characteristics of the surface will differ from the asphalt laid before the 2025 event. Additionally, a debris protection fence has been installed on the right side of turn 13, and light panels have been added.
The interval measurement point before the overtaking zone is located at the exit of turn 17. Being within one second of the opponent's car at the measurement point, the driver will be able to activate the overtaking mode, gaining an additional 0.5 MJ of electrical energy at the apex of turn 18.
Under normal grip conditions, active aerodynamics can be used in two sections. The first is located on the main straight and starts 100 meters after turn 18. The second is 70 meters after turn 14.
