"Hopefully, Honda will do its research."

Lance Stroll has been seen expressing his frustration regarding Aston Martin’s problematic 2026 car as the team gets ready for Honda’s home race in Japan. Footage from the Chinese Grand Prix weekend shows the Canadian, who is the son of team owner Lawrence Stroll, fuming over the team radio. "This is the worst piece of sh*t I’ve ever driven in my f*cking life," Stroll stated. When later asked by the media about his expectations for Suzuka, he bluntly replied: "Just pray. Pray with me."

These outbursts highlight the extent of Aston Martin’s crisis, as the team faces challenges with speed, reliability, and direction during its tough start to the Honda era. Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso expressed a more measured but equally resigned perspective. "I’ll keep doing my part by preparing myself physically and athletically," he mentioned. "Hopefully, Honda will do its homework, and we can see progress."

Honda is anticipated to roll out updates for its home race, but expectations from within the team seem to be low. Trackside chief Mike Krack commented, "We will continue to work hard, but we must stay realistic. We can’t perform miracles overnight. The priority is to address the current problems, and we can only tackle one issue at a time." Krack confirmed that new components will be assessed in Japan but cautioned against expecting a significant breakthrough. "We’ll introduce some new elements. We’ll see how much they assist," he added.

The sporting challenges are further complicated by ongoing uncertainty at the organization's helm, with Adrian Newey’s role transitioning away from daily management in efforts to recruit a more traditional team principal like Audi’s Jonathan Wheatley. RTBF journalist Gaetan Vigneron believes urgent changes are necessary. "Aston needs a director," he stated. "This individual must be politically savvy and unifying, which isn’t necessarily Newey’s strength." Vigneron suggested that refocusing Newey on technical aspects is sensible given the situation. "Newey is a genius, a creator, an innovator," he explained. "When new regulations emerge, he must exploit a grey area and uncover what others haven’t. This needs to happen quickly."

Even the usual excitement surrounding Honda for Suzuka seems to be absent, with no special livery plans reportedly in place.
