Hakkinen's daughter Ella is set to make her debut in Formula 4.
"My daughter possesses the determination and skill to succeed."
Ella Hakkinen, the daughter of two-time Formula 1 world champion Mika Hakkinen, is set to make her single-seater debut in the Central European Formula 4 series this season. The 15-year-old, who is already part of McLaren’s junior program, will compete for Jenzer Motorsport, with her first race scheduled at the Red Bull Ring this weekend. Her well-known father is confident in her potential to reach great heights.
"My daughter possesses the determination and skill to reach the top," Mika Hakkinen, 57, shared with Ilta-Sanomat newspaper. "Ella is an incredibly gifted racing driver. I say this not just as a father, but based on my experiences as a former top competitor. Her motivation is remarkable. She has a strong desire to be a racing driver, and she has truly embraced the thrill of it.
"In a few years, we will see a female driver in Formula 1 again, whether that’s Ella or another competitor. The new generation of Formula 1 fans is 40 percent female, and it’s essential for the sport to represent that."
