Ferrari is one of the teams that continues to actively work on the track during the April break in the season. Yesterday, two-day tire tests were completed at the factory circuit in Fiorano, during which rain tires were tested. Lewis Hamilton drove the SF-26 during the tests, and the car was in the same specification as at the recent Japanese Grand Prix, as the team is prohibited from adding any new components to it. Fiorano is one of the few European circuits certified for Formula 1 testing, equipped with an irrigation system that allows the asphalt to remain wet and simulate special conditions for testing both intermediate tires and tires for heavy rain. According to Pirelli's press service, prototype samples of such tires were tested on Friday, featuring a new tread pattern designed for use in a wider range of conditions, including when the rain is less intense. In the afternoon, work continued with intermediate tires, specifically evaluating the conditions under which it is advisable to switch from Full Wet tires to Intermediate and vice versa. Lewis completed 461 km in one day, which is 155 laps, with his best time being 1:00.740. The air temperature reached 22 degrees on Friday. Over the two days of testing, he completed 297 laps, covering a distance of 884 km. Next week, Pirelli tire engineers will continue working with the Mercedes and McLaren teams, and these tests will take place on April 14 and 15 at the Nürburgring. The German circuit, which last hosted a Formula 1 race in 2020, is considered to have an organic configuration, achieving an optimal balance between longitudinal and lateral loads on the tires. In particular, such a track is well-suited for testing prototype slicks.
