F1 source dismisses the claim of a return to India in 2027.

"The number of slots on the calendar is limited."

A source associated with Formula 1 has refuted claims that the sport will make a return to India as soon as 2027, despite renewed optimism from government officials. Earlier this week, India’s sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced, "An F1 race will take place in India in 2027. This is guaranteed." He mentioned that the inaugural race will occur at the Buddh International Circuit and noted that tax reforms and government backing would facilitate a successful comeback. However, a source close to Formula 1 has firmly denied this timeline. "While India represents a highly important market for the ongoing growth of Formula 1, boasting an incredibly enthusiastic fanbase, we will not be racing there in 2027," the source was quoted as saying by F1 media. "Interest in hosting Formula 1 races has never been greater, yet the number of slots on the calendar remains limited." India previously hosted Grand Prix races from 2011 to 2013 at the Buddh Circuit, but a mix of tax issues and financial challenges led to its departure. Although the country has re-emerged as a potential long-term goal—with MotoGP also briefly returning in 2023—Formula 1 seems to be adopting a more cautious stance regarding a return. This speculation follows Alpine driver Pierre Gasly's recent remark to Canal Plus suggesting that the calendar may expand to 25 Grand Prix races starting in 2027.
