Nico Rosberg: The main thing is that the fight is interesting!
The new regulations have sparked a wave of criticism from drivers, prompted discussions among teams and the FIA, but overall, they have been well received by viewers, especially the younger audience that Formula 1 owners aimed to attract. In an interview with Bloomberg, 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg spoke about his priorities…
Nico Rosberg: “Formula 1 aims to utilize technologies that are most relevant to society. The modern power unit of Formula 1 is one of the most efficient in the world. It equally utilizes the power of an internal combustion engine running on carbon-neutral fuel and a hybrid system – 50% to 50%.
Yes, there is a lot of criticism right now, as we saw in the last race, drivers sometimes have to shift to a lower gear to charge the battery. To the viewer, it may seem strange that behind the wheel of a powerful Formula 1 car, drivers cannot attack all the time, but I take it more calmly – in my opinion, the main thing is that we see interesting battles, both within the team and between teams.
I hope Ferrari can close the gap to Mercedes. McLaren is already back in the fight. If we ultimately see a truly great rivalry involving several teams, I’m sure fans will forget about the technologies and focus on the competition.
What an amazing story: 19-year-old Kimi Antonelli, yesterday's rookie, leads the championship after three Grands Prix. It’s wonderful. He already has so many fans.”
