Jos responds to the rumors of a 'done deal' regarding Verstappen and Mercedes.

A straightforward rebuttal to those assertions

Jos Verstappen has dismissed new allegations that a potential move for Max Verstappen to Mercedes has already been essentially finalized. As speculation mounts around the four-time world champion's connection to the German brand, partly driven by his increasing involvement in GT3 racing, Dutch commentator Jack Plooij even claimed to have heard directly that the agreement is nearly certain. Jos Verstappen’s reply was straightforward. “He should consult an ENT specialist or just get his ears cleaned,” he reportedly stated on social media. This denial arises as rumors persist about Max Verstappen's long-term prospects beyond Red Bull, especially given the team's difficulties with the 2026 regulations, which he openly criticizes. However, away from Formula 1, the Verstappen family remains heavily involved in motorsport, although in different areas. In an interview with Dutch publication Formule 1, Jos revealed that he now enjoys rallying more than his previous life in F1. “I prefer this now,” he remarked. “I don’t need to drive a Formula 1 car anymore. Not even for a few laps, I don’t have to. I did it, and it was lovely.” He added that watching his son gives him just as much joy. "What’s happening in the family now means much more to me. When I see Max, I find as much enjoyment as when I was driving myself, so to speak. I find this much more thrilling." Jos has even attempted to persuade Max to give rallying a shot, though without success so far. “No, driving GT3 at the Nurburgring is harmless,” he laughed. “He just needs to try it (rallying) sometime. On this one, ‘Max, please.’ Then he’ll have a different perspective. He always talks about the trees, but at some point, you don’t notice those trees anymore. You know they’re there and consider them, but you don’t focus on them. It’s crucial to be aware that they exist.”
