NLS: Verstappen's team fined after qualifying
This weekend, Max Verstappen is once again piloting the Mercedes GT3 sports car of his team Verstappen Racing and is preparing for another race in the NLS series on the legendary "Nordschleife" of the Nürburgring.
But today's qualifying did not go well for him – he and Lucas Auer (by the way, the nephew of Gerhard Berger), his teammate, were penalized and will lose three positions on the grid due to a collision with another car.
At the time of the incident, car number 3 was being driven by Auer, and when he was overtaking a slower Porsche Cayman GT4 class sports car, that car shifted off the racing line at the apex of one of the many corners of the track, resulting in a slight contact.
The Porsche spun out and ended up on the side of the track, but Auer was able to continue. After that, Max took over from the Austrian at the wheel of the Mercedes but was unable to improve on his time. Lucas's result allowed the crew to start from 6th position, but after the penalty, he dropped to 9th. Starting from pole position in today's race is the BMW M4 GT3 crew consisting of Anzal Tzigo, Maurice Kranz, and David Yan, regular participants in the Nürburgring races.
