Simone Berra, Chief Engineer: “Friday's practice felt like a trip back in time. Extending the session to 90 minutes allowed for a longer distance to be covered and a large amount of data to be collected. The Hard tires were used more in the practice, which are better suited for analyzing power unit performance and testing aerodynamic innovations.
The information gathered in Miami will be useful at other stages, as the C3 compound is used more frequently throughout the season. The laps completed on Medium and Soft allowed us to assess the difference between the three compounds, which was about half a second, corresponding to the simulation results.
The track condition is still not optimal, as evidenced by several cases of tire locking in the first corner, but the situation will improve by Sunday.
On Friday, the degradation of performance was minimal and solely related to overheating due to the high track temperature. It is interesting to note that in the qualifying for the sprint, the difference from last year's best time was only 1.4 seconds. Considering that the new generation cars allow for faster cornering, this compensates for the lower speed on the straights.”
