Pirelli plans to exercise its 2028 option, looking toward a more extended future in F1.

The company plans to submit a bid for the upcoming supply cycle.

Pirelli has reportedly opted to extend its Formula 1 contract through 2028, with the goal of continuing as the exclusive supplier beyond that date. The Italian manufacturer’s current agreement officially covers the years 2025 to 2027, with a conditional clause for 2028 that requires approval from Formula 1 and the FIA.

As per Speed Week, that option has now been activated, and Pirelli also aims to bid for the next supply cycle starting in 2029. Outgoing racing director Mario Isola acknowledges that the role is challenging in terms of public perception.

"It’s certainly tough to convey positive information about the tyres," he stated. "However, sharing insights about the behind-the-scenes efforts makes it feasible." Isola also highlighted how Formula 1 impacts Pirelli’s overall business.

"We are utilizing digital twins, meaning we are developing virtual prototypes alongside physical prototypes," he elaborated. "This is knowledge we gained from Formula 1." "These research insights can be applied to the creation of commercially available tyres." Pirelli has served as Formula 1's exclusive supplier since 2011.
