Pierre Gasly: I've been having a lot of difficulties since this morning.
Pierre Gasly showed the 10th fastest time in the qualifying for the sprint in Miami, and while he would have been genuinely happy about this last year, the French Alpine driver has a different mood now, especially since his teammate, Franco Colapinto, has moved a couple of spots higher.
Pierre Gasly (10th): “Everything didn’t go particularly well; I’ve had very big difficulties since the morning, with constant wheel spin – unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to sort this out. The feeling behind the wheel is far from the best, and we need to try to eliminate the problem by tomorrow, otherwise I will face difficulties in the race.
However, both cars from our team made it to the final qualifying, which is good, and we know that the A526 has decent potential, but it still needs to be unlocked. I’m a bit upset precisely because the impressions from driving are not quite right, but we will try to achieve improvements by Saturday.”
Franco Colapinto (8th): “I’m satisfied because we managed to turn the situation around, although we didn’t immediately figure out what was holding us back. But in the end, we found the right rhythm, figuring out why we were lacking pace. During sprint weekend days, there are usually more difficulties, but everything turned out well in the end.
The April break benefited us; we were able to reset, figured out what we needed to work on, and I think the team is moving in the right direction. I’m happy with today’s result, although, of course, the weekend is just beginning, and more important events will happen tomorrow.
We will try to move up to higher positions, and I think we have our race pace sorted out, and we look stronger compared to the mid-field teams. We even managed to overtake Isaac Hajar, the Red Bull driver, although towards the end of the final session we put on used tires and were in a less favorable position than him.
I think this track, where all the corners are quite slow, suits me better than Suzuka, and that makes me happy.”
