Vibrations are 'gone,' but a solution for the pace is 'months' off - Alonso

Vibrations are 'gone,' but a solution for the pace is 'months' off - Alonso

"It will be after the summer."

Fernando Alonso states that Aston Martin has finally addressed its severe vibration issue, but acknowledges that achieving better performance is still a distant goal. Following a troubling start to the 2026 season in the Honda-Newey era, the Spaniard confirmed that the team has at least resolved its most critical problem.

"The best news is that the vibrations have completely disappeared," Alonso remarked in Miami. "It's significantly improved, and that's the best aspect of the weekend. The car is operating normally now, and there are no issues with finishing the race or concerns about reliability."

Nevertheless, this relief comes with an important caveat. "It will be after the summer," Alonso confessed when asked when the green car would significantly enhance its pace. "It won’t happen until race 14. There’s a long way to go."

"Until we fully understand and resolve the problems, it's challenging to have the confidence needed to make performance improvements. The resolution of the vibrations is certainly a relief." The 44-year-old added that the extended timeline for enhanced performance is "part of the plan."

"There’s no advantage in gaining a few tenths of a second without it translating into results, especially since the next car is a second faster."

"We need to develop a cost-limit strategy and similar approaches, and that’s the plan."

Despite the disappearance of vibrations, new challenges arose in Miami. "I've encountered incredibly slow and forceful upshifts, lost gear synchronization in several corners, and downshifting has been very erratic as well," he noted. "At times, I’ve experienced engine braking, and at other moments, it was excessive. It’s been quite unpredictable."

"We can’t race under this level of unpredictability."

The overall outlook remains grim. "We have several months ahead of us without performance improvements, and that’s going to be the most challenging and repetitive aspect to endure," Alonso stated.
