The auto sales rivalries of our younger days have faded. No one is anxiously awaiting whether the Ford Mustang will outdo the Chevy Camaro or Dodge Challenger, as two of those models are no longer in production. If you’re feeling desperate, you might track RAV4 and CR-V sales, or you can focus on the sales competition that’s genuinely intriguing: Ford Bronco vs. Jeep Wrangler.
Sales reports for the first quarter from Ford and Jeep tell part of the story. In Q1, 31,197 Broncos were sold, while 44,461 Wranglers were sold by the end of March, indicating a difference of 13,264 units. This represented a remarkable 17% increase for the Wrangler compared to 2025, while the Bronco saw a decline of 4.3% during the same period.
April marked a shift for the Bronco. Ford claims it outsold the Wrangler significantly last month, moving 17,073 Broncos throughout the 31-day period, and resulting in a 2.7% increase for the year-to-date. According to the most recent data from the Dearborn manufacturer, a total of 48,270 Broncos were sold through April 2026. Conversely, Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis, does not disclose monthly sales figures, and Ford's conclusion appears to be based on new Wrangler registrations from April.

Ford enjoyed its best-ever year with the Bronco in 2025. The convertible 4×4 surpassed its previous record well ahead of schedule, concluding the year with 146,007 units sold. Although it didn’t surpass Wrangler sales overall, Ford was pleased with the more than 30% increase year-over-year, with a spokesperson stating, “Bronco at retail continues to be the best seller in its segment.”
Where Jeep has a significant advantage is in fleet sales. You won’t often find many base model Broncos on rental lots, but you’re likely to see numerous white Wrangler Sports. While some might dismiss this as a minor detail, they are legitimate sales that contribute to Jeep’s totals and have kept the Wrangler at the forefront since Ford reintroduced the sixth-generation Bronco in 2021. (For context, Jeep sold over 167,000 Wranglers in 2025, leading Ford by about 21,000 units.)
It’s uncertain where this competition will lead by December. New factors, such as soaring fuel prices, could influence the market. However, as warmer weather arrives, it’s likely that more individuals will be inclined to purchase an open-top four-wheeler. Marketing one of these is relatively simple when you observe people enjoying them every time you visit a local trail or shopping area.
Correction on 05/04/2026, 2:45 pm ET: An earlier version of this article mistakenly stated that the Ford Bronco had outsold the Jeep Wrangler in 2026 so far. This has been clarified based on quarterly data. The Drive apologizes for the error.
