Many of motorsport's greatest moments happen not at Formula 1 venues, but rather at spectator drag events. I'm referring to the short oval races where fans compete with whatever they have, be it a Tesla Cybertruck or a family SUV. In this instance, we see an eager driver racing his GMC Yukon XL against a single-cab Ford F-150. Things were going smoothly until they weren’t, and the large SUV crashed into the wall, shattering the rear window and sending the spare tire tumbling down the track.

      Quick, someone play the song!

Colorado National Speedway holds spectator drag events on the first Saturday of each month. This particular event took place last weekend, on May 2, with the FloRacing broadcast team present. Although this unfortunate incident would likely have gone viral from a mobile video, having a professional camera crew and commentator on-site made it even more embarrassing.

The driver was managing the extended-wheelbase vehicle well until it suddenly went out of control. Taking the inside line required him to keep it tight, and as it lost traction, he could not maintain his path. The back end swung around, directing the Yukon towards the infield, but his attempt to countersteer sent it crashing into the wall, resulting in a disaster that has since been viewed online tens of thousands of times.

Despite the driver's side of the GMC being damaged from the headlight to the taillight, the driver was reportedly unharmed. It's difficult to estimate how fast he was going upon impact, and I was surprised to see the airbags did not deploy. An SUV weighing approximately 6,000 pounds hitting a concrete barrier at any speed is bound to be painful.

Ultimately, I hope they recover quickly and have another vehicle to drive. If not, a big yellow school bus may have just added another stop.

"Hey, I crashed the SUV at the track. Luckily, I was wearing a helmet. Are you angry? Please tell me you're not upset."
