The final layer of asphalt is being laid on MadRing.

Almost every week, news comes from the capital of Spain about the progress of the construction of the MadRing racetrack, where the national Grand Prix will take place for the first time on September 13.

Last weekend, Carlos Sainz drove a full lap of the new track in a Ford Mustang GT sports car for the first time, and today the Madrid newspaper Marca reported that the final layer of asphalt is being laid at full speed.

Journalists honestly admitted that their trip around the track in the press service car caused some dissatisfaction among the workers at MadRing, and they had to apologize for the inconvenience. However, they can attest that the asphalt has already been laid on the section of the ring that leads to the banked turn La Monumental.

This turn has already become famous because the angle of the track there is 24 degrees, which is 8 degrees steeper than the banking in Zandvoort. There are no other such turns on the championship tracks. Stands will be located around La Monumental, and within the turn, a building will be constructed to house the guest areas for teams and sponsor companies.

Speaking of the configuration of the ring, it seems that it was designed with the features of the new generation cars in mind: there are no sections on the track where there is a risk of completely depleting the battery charge of the power units. At least in two places, overtaking is quite possible, which promises exciting races.

Currently, the final layer of asphalt is being laid in the area of the 17th turn, and in just 10 days, on May 31, the FIA inspection is expected to arrive. This date was originally indicated in the construction plans as the day when the asphalt laying process would be fully completed, and so far all deadlines are being strictly adhered to.

The building of the pit complex, thanks to its modular design, has been constructed in record time, and gates have already been installed on some garages. In fact, it can be said that the main work is nearing completion, and there are still three and a half months left to finish the rest.

The MadRing racetrack will host the Spanish Grand Prix under contract with Formula 1 for ten years – until 2035.
