Hülkenberg's penalty postponed, Lawson warned
The stewards of the Canadian Grand Prix reviewed the actions of Nico Hülkenberg and Liam Lawson, who violated the starting procedure. The stewards' decision outlines what happened before the start and emphasizes that the incident was unusual. At the beginning of the third formation lap, Nico Hülkenberg started too slowly, while Liam Lawson moved earlier than he should have and did not wait for the Audi driver. According to Hülkenberg, he could not safely overtake Lawson to regain his positions. As a result, both drivers crossed the first safety car line out of order, but they took their starting positions correctly. As a penalty, Nico Hülkenberg received a mandatory Stop&Go penalty after the finish, but its application has been postponed until the final race of the 2026 season. If Nico does not commit a similar violation again, the penalty will not be applied. Additionally, Nico received his first warning of the season. Liam Lawson received his first warning of the season.
