Lando Norris: I guess it wasn't our day.
On Sunday in Montreal, McLaren drivers did not earn any points, despite starting the Canadian Grand Prix from the second row. But problems began when the team decided to start on intermediate tires instead of slicks, and then other difficulties arose. On lap 38, Lando Norris retired due to technical issues, while Oscar Piastri received a 10-second penalty during the race for colliding with Alex Albon.
Lando Norris (did not finish): "I don't know what was wrong with the car. During the scheduled pit stop, I had no idea that problems were starting, but I was just asked to return to the pits. It turned out that some metal fragments were found in the car where there shouldn't have been anything like that. Something happened that shouldn't have happened...
Of course, the best moment was my first lap, and then I retired from the race with a loud effect, literally. Overall, I suppose it wasn't our day.
As for the decision to start on intermediate tires, we made that together with the team. I insisted on it too, so part of the responsibility lies with me. However, in any case, we lacked pace today.
I couldn't even get the front tires warmed up properly. It was difficult to drive – I think due to the cold weather, we found ourselves in a very unfavorable position. It's a pity that many things didn't go as they should have today. Overall, it's important not to lose heart, learn all the necessary lessons, and come back stronger."
Oscar Piastri (11th): "The race was eventful. Before the start, between the anthem and the moment we had to get in the car, it rained, and the asphalt was quite wet. Of course, there was no standing water on the track, but it was wet in places, so it was difficult to go to the starting grid on slicks.
Unfortunately, when the formation lap started, the rain stopped. If it had continued a little longer, we could have been heroes, but it stopped, so we looked foolish. It was one of those days.
Regarding the collision with Alex Albon, after the unscheduled pit stop, I was trying to move forward, but it was very difficult to drive. I thought I was entering the corner carefully enough, but I locked up the front wheels, and there was contact. It wasn't the best moment in my career, and I apologize to Alex and the Williams team..."
