In honor of Oscar Piastri, a new species of fossil wasp has been named.

Scientists named a new species of fossil wasp after McLaren racer Oscar Piastri. The fossil, estimated to be around 100 million years old, was discovered in amber in Myanmar.

The new species of wasp has been named Gwesped piastrii. The find was made in the Hukawng Valley, located in Kachin State. The insect measures just 1.15 millimeters and dates back to the mid-Cretaceous period. According to researchers, the fossil is about 30 million years older than the Tyrannosaurus rex, which lived around 68 million years ago.

The authors of the study explained their choice of name as a way to honor Oscar Piastri's achievements in Formula 1. Additionally, the shade of amber reminded the scientists of the orange color of the McLaren team.

The study involved Corentin Juo from the University of Oxford, Di-Yin Huang from the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology in China, and Celso O. Azevedo, who works at the Federal University of EspĂrito Santo in Brazil.
