Verstappen: In slow corners, we look confident.
On Thursday in Monaco, Max Verstappen spoke about the fact that surprises are always possible on the city circuit, so Red Bull Racing should not be counted out. At the same time, the four-time world champion noted the weaknesses of the RB22 car, which could complicate the team's task.
Max Verstappen: "Let's see how it all goes. A lot will depend on a number of factors on this track, but it's hard to say how the car will behave tomorrow. Surprises are always possible in Monaco.
If we assess the situation adequately, we look quite confident in the slow corners. However, the car's performance on bumps and curbs is equally important on this track, and so far, this cannot be called our strong point. So let's wait for the weekend to begin and see how events unfold.
We need to improve in almost all areas. I would like to have more grip on the track, more power, more effective braking, and to ensure that the tires work in the optimal range.
Overall, we strive to become stronger in all areas. In Montreal, the car clearly lacked speed both on the straights and in the corners. Additionally, the car did not handle the bumps in the asphalt very well. There are other tracks with fast corners where we also have work to do. There are no such corners in Monaco, but it is in such sections that we usually do not show our best qualities."
Max Verstappen has repeatedly criticized the technical regulations for 2026 and does not feel particularly enthusiastic about the prospect of driving a new generation car in Monaco.
"With the latest adjustments, the situation should improve a bit," Verstappen continues. "The car will probably become a little more maneuverable at low speeds, but this raises questions about handling. I feel that in this regard, the current cars have taken a step back compared to last year's, so we'll see.
I would say that qualifying remains the main session of this weekend, as it is on Saturday that you need to show your maximum. Of course, we will try to achieve as good a result as possible."
