Friday in Monaco traditionally abounds with incidents, crashes, and red flags, but cranes are positioned in the right places, and the marshals work perfectly – everyone comes to learn from them, so the pauses were minimal.
After working with the new items in the first practice and determining the settings, teams actively tested tires over distance in the second session. Pirelli brought the three softest compounds, and at the beginning of the session, everyone except Aston Martin went out on Medium, later switching to Soft.
At the start of the session, Norris stopped on the track – the car simply shut down after the tunnel. The marshals lifted it onto a cart and removed it from the track.
Perez and Colapinto hit the barrier, Franco broke the suspension and returned to the pits, but then went out again.
Six minutes before the end of the session, red flags appeared – Perez's car caught fire due to electrical problems, Sergio stopped and jumped out of the cockpit, and the marshals extinguished the fire with fire extinguishers.
The best time was set by Lewis Hamilton, completing a lap in 1:13.026 – just ahead of his teammate by a tenth.

Practices in Monaco are sometimes more interesting than the races. At the beginning of the weekend, everything is as it is, and the track is in worse condition. Many drivers simply do not attack on Friday, getting accustomed to the configuration, but in this mode, it is also easiest to make mistakes, yet based on past years' experience and simulator work, no one makes gross mistakes anymore. Everyone is maximally prepared even on a challenging street circuit.
In Monaco, it is difficult to test anything, but several teams brought new items and spent the first practice assessing their effectiveness. McLaren had the most new items – and the drivers went out with aerodynamic paint to gather the necessary data.
Hamilton locked up his tires, ending up in the safety pocket, Gasly lost part of his bodywork. On the 35th minute, Hadjar crashed his car. Losing control in the chicane of turns 15-16, Isaac crashed straight into the wall. The left rear wheel was torn off, and the wings were broken – for Isaac, the practice ended there. Lawson brushed the barrier without consequences for the car.
The second red flag appeared after Fernando Alonso hit the barrier at the exit of the tunnel – debris appeared, and the session was stopped to clear it.
The protocol was led by Charles Leclerc, who completed a lap on his home track in 1:13.978. His teammate Lewis Hamilton took second place, conceding two tenths.
