Lawson is seeking a new deal as the silly season ramps up.
"I don’t want to wait until December for a decision."
Liam Lawson stated that he would immediately sign a new contract with Racing Bulls if it were his decision. As the Formula 1 driver market for 2027 begins to heat up in Monaco, the New Zealander is among several drivers who lack clarity regarding their futures beyond this season. Lawson's contract runs out at the end of 2026, and Red Bull's junior teams typically favor short-term contracts that offer flexibility in future team compositions. Following a challenging promotion to Red Bull early in his career and his subsequent return to Racing Bulls, Lawson has steadily restored his reputation this season alongside the highly regarded rookie, Arvid Lindblad.
When asked about his future in Monaco, the 24-year-old confessed that he remains uncertain. "I haven’t really reflected on my future plans at the moment. It’s too soon to discuss that," Lawson mentioned. "I’m concentrating on maintaining the consistency we’ve demonstrated in the first few races this season and sustaining it through the end of the year."
Nonetheless, he expressed his desire for an earlier decision compared to the last time. "Certainly, I don’t want to wait until December for a decision," Lawson remarked. "But ultimately, it’s not my choice. If it were up to me, I would sign a contract for next year right now."
Adding to the curiosity in Monaco, veteran Formula 1 photographer Kym Illman pointed out an interesting detail on Friday morning. While Max Verstappen, Isack Hadjar, and Arvid Lindblad all arrived at the paddock by boat, Lawson was the only driver affiliated with Red Bull to come in by road. "Liam Lawson was the only driver from the Red Bull family who arrived by land this morning," Illman noted.
