Croatia has taken a significant step towards entering the Formula 1 scene, as a proposed new track has passed a crucial environmental assessment. The planned ‘Croatia Ring’ near Slunj has received notification from Croatia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transformation that a comprehensive environmental impact study will not be necessary, although existing regulations still need to be adhered to. This decision marks a significant milestone for a project that aims to attract Formula 1 in the long run. As reported by Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, the Croatia Ring is envisioned as a large motorsport and leisure facility spanning approximately 50 hectares. A prominent figure associated with the project is 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve, who is serving as an advisor. His participation has contributed to garnering international interest for the initiative. The project has already received official support after being designated as a strategic national investment by Croatian officials. Proponents believe the circuit could act as an economic catalyst for the region, with Zagreb and its international airport situated about 75 minutes away. The current goal is to finish the Croatia Ring by the end of 2027.
