Barcelona Grand Prix: Overtaking Zones and Active Aerodynamics

On the eve of the Barcelona-Catalonia Grand Prix, the FIA confirmed the location of the only activation zone for the overtaking mode (OT) and SM (Straight Mode) zones, where active aerodynamics can be used.

There is only one overtaking mode zone on the Spanish track. It is located at the apex of the 13th corner. Being within one second of the opponent's car at the measurement point, the driver will be able to activate the overtaking mode, gaining an additional 0.5 MJ of electrical energy. The activation point for the overtaking mode is at the entrance to the 14th corner.

The SM zones are divided into two subsections – zones where active aerodynamics is used under normal tire grip conditions (both the rear and front wings can be opened) and under reduced grip conditions (on a wet track, only the front wing can be opened).

Under normal grip conditions, active aerodynamics can be used in sections that start 45 meters after the 14th corner, 40 meters before the 3rd corner, 90 meters after the 5th corner, and 40 meters after the 9th corner.

Under reduced grip conditions, active aerodynamics can be used in sections that start 85 meters after the 14th corner, at the exit of the 3rd corner, 90 meters after the 5th corner, and 90 meters after the 9th corner.

Compared to 2025, there have been no significant changes to the track.
