Alonso: This is probably my last race in Barcelona.

This year, for the first time in history, the circuit in Barcelona will not host the Spanish Grand Prix, which will now take place in Madrid, but rather the Barcelona-Catalonia Grand Prix. Next year, the circuit will not be on the Formula 1 calendar, and it will return only in 2028. Therefore, on Thursday at the FIA press conference, Fernando Alonso admitted that this might be his last race in Barcelona.

Fernando Alonso: "I have a special weekend ahead of me. This is probably my last race in Barcelona in Formula 1, so I want to thank everyone for their support.

I will try to enjoy this stage. In qualifying, we are unlikely to be competitive, so my performance will probably be short-lived. I hope the situation will be better in the race. Of course, we are not at the level we would all like to be, but I still want the fans to enjoy this weekend."

Commenting on the first point of the season earned in Monaco, Fernando said: "I don't think our own efforts influenced the result last weekend. We earned one point due to various circumstances during the race – penalties, retirements, and other events. But we cannot hide the fact that even in Monaco we lacked speed. If we talk about pure pace, we probably didn't deserve that tenth place.

I think this year it will be very difficult for any team to regularly earn points. The top four teams almost always occupy the top eight positions if the race goes without surprises. Only the ninth and tenth positions remain.

At the same time, Alpine could very well be the fifth fastest team. So, as I said, to earn points, you need help from circumstances. In Monaco, there was even more help than usual.

As for motivation, nothing has changed for me. I understand perfectly how this sport works and how Formula 1 operates. To achieve results, you need the right car, and the team's task is to bring it to the necessary level as quickly as possible.

We have seen many examples where drivers spend one season outside the top ten and then win races the next. Or vice versa – they win at first and then can't even get out of the first part of qualifying.

Motivation hasn't gone anywhere because I believe in myself and am fully confident in my abilities. When I had the same equipment as any other driver, I never felt uncompetitive in Formula 1 or other series. Throughout my career, I have driven many different cars, and I have always felt the same. It is the same now.

Moreover, I believe in the team. Of course, starting a new regulatory cycle with a deficit is not an ideal situation because everything takes time, especially in our case. We quickly realized that the power unit was lagging behind competitors, and the project itself turned out to be insufficiently mature. Therefore, it became clear that we would need time to close the gap and solve existing problems.

But in Formula 1, races take place every two weeks, and every two weeks, results are expected from you. We quickly realized that we wouldn't be able to meet these expectations right away, so the start of the season was bound to be tough, and it was.

Now we are just going through this difficult period and have high hopes for the second half of the season. But until that moment, each weekend will unfold according to a similar scenario."
