Kulthard commented on Zak Brown's open letter.

Zak Brown is increasingly concerned about the independence of Formula 1 teams, and the CEO of McLaren Racing is actively calling for a resolution to this issue. Primarily, he means that Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls are owned by one specific Austrian company, and Brown does not consider such alliances to be correct or in the best interests of the championship.

David Coulthard, a former Formula 1 driver who once raced for Red Bull Racing, can be said to have indirectly responded to him when he reminded how much the Austrian company Red Bull has done to help the team from the Italian city of Faenza, which was once a championship outsider, truly strengthen and become a real force over a couple of decades.

During another episode of the Up to Speed podcast, David was asked if it could happen that Racing Bulls would stop being owned by Red Bull.

"We hear comments of this kind in the public space from Zak Brown," the Scot replied. "I think Toto Wolff has also touched on this issue, emphasizing how important it is for teams to be independent. Clearly, the discussion of this topic is gradually gaining momentum.

But I don't believe there is any official directive on this matter – nothing of the sort has been announced yet. In general, Red Bull has long owned two Formula 1 teams and the racetrack where the championship stages take place. But look, they helped a small mid-level team become strong, and now its drivers regularly compete for places in the top ten. Before Red Bull acquired Minardi, that team had never competed at such a high level.

Overall, I think it's useful to remember the past. And if we look at the picture in its entirety, Red Bull invested in this team, and if they ever have to sell it – considering all the work that Formula 1, Liberty Media, and everyone else is doing – then those investments will pay off well.

If Williams was sold for less than $200 million, now teams have increased in value, and are probably worth around $3 billion, or you could even name practically any amount that comes to mind."
