Laurent Mekis doubts the correctness of the FIA's conclusions.
Laurent Mekies, head of Red Bull Racing, wants to achieve complete clarity on which teams and why will be granted the right to upgrade their engines under the ADUO program.
Even during the race weekend in Monaco, Lewis Hamilton stated that Ferrari would be able to make two modifications to their internal combustion engine (ICE), while Mercedes would make one, with the FIA believing that Red Bull Racing has the most powerful engine. We have discussed the methods used by the federation's specialists to measure the efficiency of engines from different manufacturers.
However, the FIA has still not released the results of their research.
“Certainly, there needs to be complete clarity on how you assess the efficiency of the ICE,” Mekies is quoted by RacingNews365. “We need to be sure that this ranking is compiled correctly, especially since the results vary from track to track depending on the configuration features.
If we recall the stage in Canada, where there is a high dependence on ICE power, we showed the 6th fastest time in qualifying. Let’s remember Monaco, where power is not as important, and there we lost pole time by four hundredths. And in Barcelona, where there is again a high dependence on power, we were also sixth.
We do not see a single example that would allow us to consider that we are outperforming our competitors, let alone consistently outpacing them.”
