Kevin Magnussen, a former Formula 1 driver, now racing for the BMW factory team in the World Endurance Championship, tried his hand in the American NASCAR series for the first time in his career. Formally, the result doesn't look particularly impressive – the Dane finished 27th out of 39 participants, of whom only 34 made it to the finish. However, Kevin completed the entire race, which took place on a very challenging street circuit in San Diego, avoided major troubles, and at times his Chevrolet with the number 91 reached the top ten. Moreover, Magnussen engaged in battles with other drivers, displaying the aggression that characterized him in Formula 1, and emerged victorious from them. But perhaps the main achievement can be considered the fact that Kevin recorded the fastest lap of the race.

This happened shortly before the finish, and Magnussen's time surpassed the second-best by almost eight tenths. This indicates that the 33-year-old driver has adapted well to driving a NASCAR car, and the Trackhouse Racing team may invite him back to their Project91 program. The question remains whether Kevin himself would want that. His result on the track could have been higher if circumstances had been different. However, in the middle phase of the race, he made a mistake, and his car spun out. Then, along with the team, he waited for the yellow flags to reappear and intentionally stayed on the track, even though the tires were quite worn, saving a fresh set of tires for the last pit stop. But the race was never neutralized...

Additionally, as reported by the American press, he already has at least one personal enemy – Noah Gragson, a driver for Front Row Motorsports (FRM). The thing is, closer to the end of the race, Magnussen sent Gragson's Ford Mustang into a spin, and after the finish, Gragson approached Kevin to settle the score. Naturally, the conversation was heated and involved the active use of profanity. In any case, Kevin had no intention of regretting his actions – he had promised before the race to "elbow his rivals" and he fulfilled that promise.
