Hamilton spoke about the consequences of last year's injury.
When Lewis Hamilton spoke to the press in the paddock of the Austrian racetrack, he was asked about the consequences of an old injury he sustained in the winter of 2025 in Barcelona during the initial testing of the Ferrari SF-25 car.
The fact of the injury was known, but only now has the seven-time world champion shared more details about what he had to go through at that time and how he recovered.
Lewis Hamilton: "This information is personal, but last year during testing I crashed very hard into the barriers. As a result, one of my cervical discs was displaced, a nerve was affected, and for nine weeks I could hardly do anything about it.
I had manual therapists working with me every day, I had to go through procedures daily, I couldn't sleep properly, and I had to take a lot of painkillers, including injections. I did everything I could, tried to live with it somehow, and it wasn't easy considering the position you have to sit in the cockpit of the car."
Fortunately, those problems are in the past, and the best confirmation of that is the confident victory of the British Ferrari driver in Barcelona. Naturally, journalists are interested in whether Hamilton has thoughts about an eighth title?
"If we're talking about winning the championship, I don't let such thoughts distract me," Hamilton replied. "I have that experience already, and I know what I need to do. There's still a long way to go in the championship, and as we prepare for the Austrian stage of the season, we don't think about that. We only think about the upcoming weekend because we need to try to perform as well as possible.
In Austria, we will get a new engine, and although we won't be able to completely make up for the deficit, it's a definite step forward. But it's an important step, so I'm proud of our team and grateful to them for it.
Mercedes remains the leader; they have won all the other races and are performing incredibly well this year. They have a great car; it truly is a championship team. We are in for a real battle, so everyone will need to give their maximum effort until the end of the year to at least catch up with Mercedes, but I don't think that's impossible."
