The Austrian stage of the championship is taking place in very hot weather – Pirelli tire engineers, summarizing the day, noted that the air temperature reached 35 degrees, and the asphalt heated up to 53. Meanwhile, the drivers and teams worked during Friday's practice with tires from all three compounds, but of course, Kimi Antonelli set the best time of the day on the softest C5 tires.

Simone Berra, Pirelli's chief engineer: "It was a very useful day in terms of gathering information about the performance of all three tire compounds – both in qualifying mode and during long runs.

Teams approached the practice sessions differently: some preferred to save two sets of hard tires for the next two days, while others used one set of Hard tires today. This also gives an idea that on Sunday we will see different tactical schemes, and there are quite a few possible options.

Tire degradation increased due to high temperatures and the abrasive surface of the asphalt, so the most likely choice will be a two-stop strategy.

In terms of grip levels, the C3 and C4 tires behaved similarly, but were operating in a not entirely optimal mode, as the track is still not in the best condition, but the situation will change as the weekend progresses.

On the other hand, the soft tires are already showing excellent performance, and in some cases, drivers managed to complete a lap even faster on their second attempt. However, this still needs to be verified in tomorrow's qualifying.

During long runs, few used the Soft tires today, so we do not yet have complete clarity on how they perform in this mode, unlike the Medium and Hard. Thus, the soft tires appear to be the least preferred option and will have less influence on the race strategy, as teams will opt for a more conservative approach, partly due to the forecast promising further temperature increases."
