Vasseur: So far, we have not been able to unlock the potential of the SF-26.

Ferrari drivers, after the first practice sessions at the Red Bull Ring, lagged quite a bit behind the leaders, despite the fact that the lap on the Austrian track is short. Lewis Hamilton was faster than his teammate, but his fifth result was 0.597 seconds slower than Kimi Antonelli's time.

"In these specific conditions, which are quite extreme, we faced some minor issues," commented Frederic Vasseur, the head of the Italian team. "The track is located at a higher altitude, and it is very hot here – the air and asphalt temperatures are very high. On one hand, everyone is in the same conditions, but these conditions do not suit us very well.

The situation is what it is, so we will try to make some changes to the setup, work on the car, and the drivers will adjust their driving approach somehow, and on Saturday we will try to put everything together and handle the situation better.

Yes, our cars are equipped with upgraded engines, but this step cannot be considered that significant. For now, we are lagging quite noticeably, and we are unable to unlock the potential of the SF-26, but the task is to focus more on solving our own problems and think less about the results of others."

According to Vasseur, the difference from the previous round in Barcelona, where Lewis Hamilton secured a confident victory, is that tire degradation on the Austrian track is clearly lower:

"The level of degradation in Barcelona was much higher, and this was the main factor affecting speed, at least during the race. But there we could fight for pole position in qualifying – we managed to show what our car is capable of. Here, we are still lagging significantly, but we will see what we can achieve on Saturday."
