Pirelli believes that everything is currently meeting expectations.
Pirelli tire manufacturers summarized the first day of the British racing weekend, emphasizing that everything is currently meeting their expectations – primarily regarding the performance of the tires on the Silverstone track.
Dario Marraffuski, Pirelli Motorsport Director: “On the tire front, the weekend in Silverstone is going quite according to expectations, and local fans were pleasantly surprised and delighted that their favorite driver Lewis Hamilton secured pole position in the sprint qualifying.
In the first part of the only hour-long qualifying session, teams got acquainted with the behavior of the C1 tire compound, which had only been used in Suzuka prior to Silverstone. Meanwhile, the C2 and C3 compounds were mainly used in short series of laps, as drivers were already working on speed, which allowed teams to gather useful information that will be helpful in the remaining days of the weekend.
In both of today’s sessions, tire degradation was within expected limits, and the speed difference between the Medium and Soft compounds under equal fuel loads was around four-tenths of a second – about a tenth less than our calculations indicated.
Tomorrow, it will be interesting to see which compounds will be used in the sprint, as we currently believe that even a bet on the soft tires could yield good results, especially for those drivers starting from the second half of the grid.”
