Lando Norris: Driving was quite difficult

Lando Norris finished 4th at Silverstone in the race, which was a home race for both him and the McLaren team, but compared to his teammate, he was still somewhat lucky…

Lando Norris (4th): “I was hoping that green flags would come out towards the end of the race and that the battle would resume at least on the last lap, as George Russell was on worn tires and Lewis Hamilton was on fresh rubber, which gave him an advantage on the restart, and it’s possible that I could have taken advantage of that.

Finishing in third place would have made me very happy, but I finished fourth, and the pace was quite poor; I wasn’t satisfied with the car and how everything was going. But we still managed to secure 4th place, avoided trouble, and the reliability was good. It was just quite difficult to drive. We need to keep working to achieve improvements in almost all areas.”

Oscar Piastri (11th): “At the start before Turn 6, I found myself squeezed between two Racing Bulls – three cars were racing wheel to wheel on the straight, and it’s impossible to go three-wide into the corner. Overall, my car sustained damage on the first lap, after which I had to pit to change the front wing.

We were hoping for a safety car, and it did come out, but it happened 45 laps later than I would have liked. Unfortunately, in this situation, there was no chance to show a decent result.

It’s clear that we didn’t have speed this weekend, and although we knew this in advance, the extent of the gap still surprised us a bit. However, on the other hand, in Austria, we expected the Ferraris to be fast, but that didn’t turn out to be the case, and here they surprised us by winning the race. We definitely understood that they are a step ahead of us. That’s how things stand right now.”
