Pirelli: Tire wear on Sunday turned out to be slightly higher.
Tire wear on race day turned out to be slightly higher than on Friday and Saturday, but it hardly affected the teams' strategies...
Dario Marraffusca, Pirelli Motorsport Director: "Today all teams adhered to one strategy — the one our calculations determined to be the fastest. Until the first announcement of the virtual safety car, the race proceeded without different strategy options, except for the timing of the switch from Medium to Hard tires.
The early pit stops of some drivers were influenced by tire wear, which was higher in the early stages of the race than in previous days, partly due to the higher temperatures on Sunday.
During the first race stoppage, some drivers decided to put on fresh sets of C2 tires, and the deployment of the safety car at the end of the race not only led to a general switch to the softest C3 tires but also determined the finishing order on the podium.
George Russell managed to secure second place after already making his second pit stop due to debris on the track, while both Ferrari drivers headed to the pits for a tire change, waiting for a restart that never happened.
Pirelli's work in Silverstone doesn't end here. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will return to the track with Mercedes and Williams for another two days of prototype tire testing for the next season – this time we will be working on slicks."
