Land Rover, recognized as the premium SUV manufacturer globally, has just unveiled the Range Rover GT. It’s a Range Rover, it’s a grand touring coupe, and it represents the fulfillment of a decade-old vision—according to the company, it embodies “long-haul refinement and all-terrain capability.”
Visually, it does not appear significantly different from the Range Rover Velar; however, it certainly shifts the brand's focus further from its off-road truck roots into the realm of cars. Range Rover Managing Director Martin Limpert explains the vision behind this model:
“The Range Rover GT will redefine the grand touring segment by delivering exquisite and engaging GT elegance, proportions, and long-distance comfort while providing capabilities unmatched by any conventional GT. Over the past few years, we've been diligently refining the essentials of the GT concept, reimagined in a sophisticated and uniquely Range Rover manner. The outcome is the most car-like, yet unmistakably proficient, Range Rover ever produced, now attainable on our electrified EMA platform—enhancing our existing powertrain lineup to meet every customer's needs. Its combination of effortless electric vehicle performance, top-notch long-distance refinement, and all-terrain proficiency is quintessentially Range Rover; additionally, its serene interior showcases our vision for a contemporary grand tourer.”

To address your initial inquiry: Yes, it’s an electric vehicle. It will be the first fully electric Range Rover on the brand's new EMA platform, produced in Halewood, UK, alongside combustion and hybrid variants. The Range Rover GT is reportedly in the final stages of prototype testing and will debut as a fully electric model, with a hybrid version already planned.
As for details regarding its range, power, or any other specifications, those are yet to be announced. It's likely they're aiming for over 300 miles of range and a 0 to 60 mph time around 3.0 seconds. Anticipate strong acceleration and a substantial curb weight, similar to other luxury electric vehicles.
It bears a slight resemblance to the Jaguar Type 01—at least in that it has similarly narrow headlights—but it is built on a different platform.

For over a decade, there have been whispers about “Range Rover possibly venturing into automotive design.” While seeking context, I came across an older article I wrote in 2016 regarding a rumor that Range Rover would badge a Jaguar to create its own coupe. Naturally, that did not transpire. Even though the Range Rover GT is officially described as “car-like” with a “sleek silhouette and coupe proportions,” it’s more akin to an aerodynamic crossover rather than an actual sedan. It does seem more aligned with a Cadillac Lyriq than a Porsche Cayenne coupe or one of the other unconventional German vehicles.
I’m curious to ascertain what JLR genuinely means by “all-terrain capability.” If the brand combines its advanced traction management technology with four independent electric motors, it might tackle very slippery surfaces effectively. However, that low ride height will likely make true trail navigation quite challenging.
The interior aligns with the luxury design trends of 2026: expansive, uninterrupted surfaces accented by screens. The company describes it as a “sanctuary of calm,” but to me, it appears as luxurious as an airplane restroom. The lack of detail doesn’t equate to good design; regardless of how much Apple, Tesla, and Gerry McGovern advocate for it.
Objectively, I believe Range Rover's actual clientele will appreciate this. Prototype models are currently undergoing final road testing, and JLR plans to release more information about the Range Rover GT later this year.
