Mercedes has resolved the issue with Russell's engine.

      On the eve of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Mercedes engineers made changes to the power unit software to address an issue that partially deprived George Russell's car of power in Spa. The team discovered that the error was deep within the programming code of the power unit control system. As a result, during qualifying, the energy distribution algorithm excessively drained the battery charge in the first half of the lap, especially in the section before the Les Combes corner. Combined with the energy recovery characteristics in the second sector, this meant that Russell simply lacked electrical power on the straight before the final chicane. After analyzing the data, Mercedes modified the software to prevent such a situation from occurring again. Additionally, engineers found the cause of the power loss for George Russell and Kimi Antonelli on the first lap of the race in Spa. Due to a software error, both cars recovered less energy than calculated when braking before the first corner, La Source. The system then used additional battery charge during acceleration to compensate for the turbo lag, resulting in a lower energy reserve by the time they reached the Kemmel straight. The situation was complicated by regulatory features. Once the electric energy reserve fell below the calculated level, the system could no longer instantly change the power unit's operating mode, as such actions are restricted by regulations. As a result, neither Russell nor Antonelli received the expected power boost on the straight. However, the consequences for the two drivers turned out to be different. Russell went through the Eau Rouge/Raidillon section with the throttle fully pressed, so the limitations took effect earlier, and his car's speed did not exceed 308 km/h for some time. Antonelli was forced to lift off the throttle after being overtaken by Max Verstappen. Because of this, the power unit operated under a different algorithm, and the limitation occurred later. Although Kimi also lost some power, his maximum speed was higher than Russell's. This was enough for him to take advantage of the slipstream and overtake Verstappen.
