Mercedes is discussing a penalty for Antonelli in Monza.

The Mercedes team is considering the possibility of replacing components of the power unit on Kimi Antonelli's car in the second half of the season beyond the allowed limit. In this case, the leader of the personal standings would face a penalty with a loss of positions at the start, and one of the possible options for this within the team is the Italian Grand Prix. Kimi Antonelli has already exhausted the allowed limit for the season for internal combustion engines, exhaust system sets, energy storage devices, and control electronics. Therefore, installing any new component from this list will lead to a penalty. Mercedes hopes to avoid additional replacements; however, reliability issues in the first half of the season force the team to consider such a scenario. If the penalty becomes inevitable, it is necessary to choose a stage where the loss of starting positions will have the least consequences for Kimi. One suitable option appears to be the Italian Monza, where overtaking is easier than on many other tracks. However, this is Antonelli's home race, so as an alternative, Mercedes is considering the option of replacement and penalty at the stage in Baku. "Speaking of the penalty for engine replacement, I still very much hope that we can avoid it," Toto Wolff said at the Hungaroring. "But if a replacement is indeed necessary, we will have to decide at which track it is best to carry it out. There is one stage that could be very special for Kimi, but in theory, it looks like a suitable place for such a penalty. So we need to talk to Marco [Antonelli, Kimi's father] and decide if we want to take the penalty for the engine replacement in Monza. Baku is also one of the options; we might choose it. Then Kimi won't have to start from the back in Monza. This season we have had serious reliability issues, but we'll see if we ultimately have to take the penalty or not."
