Scandal in IndyCar: the track is not ready for the start of the weekend
In the American IndyCar series, a rare and highly scandalous situation has arisen: due to the fault of the race organizers at the new street circuit in the Canadian city of Markham, the track was not ready for the start of the weekend. As reported by Racer, there is a well-known rule in IndyCar: everyone knows that you should not upset or irritate Roger Penske, the owner of Penske Entertainment, which in turn owns the entire series, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Team Penske, and much more. And now this rule has been violated, and it was allowed by one of the most reliable and proven partners of the series – Green Savoree Race Promotions, which effectively organizes races in St. Petersburg, Mid-Ohio, and Portland. This time, the company was supposed to prepare the new urban track for the 14th stage of the season in time, the venue for the Grand Prix of Markham, but for some reason, they failed. As a result, the IndyCar teams, drivers, Honda and Chevrolet engine manufacturers, and thousands of fans lost an entire day, as the start of the weekend was postponed at the last moment to Saturday. All agreements for holding the stage in Markham were signed in September 2025, and the promoters had almost a year to plan and prepare everything properly so that training could begin on Friday morning. However, it turned out that the installation of safety barriers and other fencing elements was still ongoing, as was the laying of cables for signaling and communication systems, but most importantly, the construction of the bridge was not even finished. As a result, the series organizers had to make an openly angry statement and apologize to the public. "IndyCar is incredibly disappointed that our promoter was unable to complete the construction of the track on time, despite the significant support provided by our team," said Doug Bowles, president of the series. "New races can always pose logistical challenges, and we, along with our dedicated fans, are very upset and apologize to everyone." Work on the track continues, the start of the weekend program has been moved to 8 AM on Saturday, and training is scheduled to begin at 10 AM local time.
